Wooden Cases

Good ol’ wooden days.

Every Modder or Tweaker had a moment in his life of using wood to make computer cases. I had such period as well and made a few cases. Wood is generally an easy material to work with and it is cheap. Wood also reduces the noise because it blocks it better than thin iron sheets. Be sure you have enough airflow because wood keeps the warmth better than iron. Somebody once told me to ground all components. Normally, all components are grounded by the case itself. I never grounded any of the components, it worked without any problems for years.

Materials used
- Some wood
- Some LEDs and switches

Specs
The box-like case housed a P4 2,8 GHz with 2 Gb of RAM. Heating was not a problem; the out- and intake were both at the back.

The standing ‘case’ was an early P1 dual 133MHz server. Think it had 128 Mb of RAM. Still have it laying around somehwere.

Building
Keep in mind to cover all interfaces and sockets with some tape otherwise they will get useless after being covered by paint.

Photos
Just a few photos of the two ‘cases’
