A lil mod of the already awesome CannedSardine!

Here’s a quick (and dirty) mod of the CannedSardine to transfer it into a portable music player! Great for taking to LAN-parties and team buidling days. Basically it comes down to adding a La Fonera+ router to its power supply and connect it to the case.

My L.U.S.T firewall

This is the building of my first L.U.S.T (Let.U.Sleep.Tight) firewall which runs on the legendary m0n0wall software.
M0n0wall is the perfect solution if you want to run a dedicated ‘hardware’ firewall and when you have some old crappy hardware laying around. It will run on almost anything.

Maintaining my Sony

My always reliable Sony VAIO VGN-FE series.

After serving for almost 3 years without any problems, my VAIO finally showed her first sign of weakness. She kept losing her WiFi signal when moving her slightly or when pressing on the right front. After inspection, the front WiFi switch seemed to be faulty. This meant opening her up and replacing the switch and while doing so, giving her some extra attention.

Wooden Cases

Good ol’ wooden days.

Every Modder or Tweaker had a moment in his life of using wood to make computer cases. I had such period as well and made a few cases. Wood is generally an easy material to work with and it is cheap. Wood also reduces the noise because it blocks it better than thin iron sheets. Be sure you have enough airflow because wood keeps the warmth better than iron. Somebody once told me to ground all components. Normally, all components are grounded by the case itself. I never grounded any of the components, it worked without any problems for years.
