LED Tachometer

A visual aid in case the roaring engine deafens you.

With only a handful of components it is possible to create a reliable tachometer for a 2-stroke engine. The tachometer described in this post is low-cost and easy to build. It took me one evening to design, build and install it on my kart. A smaller project like this I often start in between a larger project, for example when my mind got stuck on a problem. NiteBite

For a shocking night time experience.

NiteBite is based on a military night vision periscope still used today in tanks and other armored vehicles around the world. Its heart consists of two Philips XX1080 image intensifier tubes which provide true binocular vision unlike most other night vision devices. These late model 1st generation tubes allow operation in near total darkness without the need of additional IR illumination.

He was brought to life to enjoy us with cheerful music when playing basketball, doing choirs in the garden or during other outdoor activities. A religious token to tame the beast inside.

Some years ago Spikebike joined our family. She was a real beauty to look at with her shiny metal frame reflecting the mesmerizing afternoon sun. Always ready to begin a journey into the unknown like a loyal horse. However soon she started to change. Her behaviour took a turn for the worse. She became more and more rebellious, her metal frame was suddenly not so shiny anymore. What once were graceful fenders became a breeding ground for rust with evil spikes growing on them. Because of her change nobody dared to drive her for a long time. What made her reject our loving care and turn towards the darkness…and why? One thing is sure, the Spikebike was in desperate need of some spiritual guidance.

Maintaining my Sony

My always reliable Sony VAIO VGN-FE series.

After serving for almost 3 years without any problems, my VAIO finally showed her first sign of weakness. She kept losing her WiFi signal when moving her slightly or when pressing on the right front. After inspection, the front WiFi switch seemed to be faulty. This meant opening her up and replacing the switch and while doing so, giving her some extra attention.
